We often have the special privilege of planning alongside couples who live outside of the Richmond metro area. Although Anna and Cam live in Boston, family and old roots brought them back to Richmond for their wedding day. Primarily planning from Boston, Anna and Cam built a strong, trusting partnership with our lead planner, Brooke, who transformed their inspirations and vision into the celebration of their dreams. This wedding design was nothing short of whimsical and immersive, tying vintage and modern elements together for a fun, pattern-filled day.
Traditional Venues, Unconventional Design
Anna and Cam dreamt of transforming traditional venues using whimsical design. Rather than standard wedding decor, they envisioned an eclectic, moody garden vibe filled with fun, twisty candles, reflecting Anna’s personality.
The ceremony was held at the Pro-Cathedral of St. Peter, where Remi & Gold decorated the steps and sanctuary with deep, colorful floral arrangements. Balancing vibrant florals with the venue’s architectural drama, the floral design lent a romantic feel while maintaining the cathedral's sacred, formal atmosphere.
After the ceremony, guests moved to the Country Club of Virginia for cocktails and appetizers, where rich colors, patterned linens, and bold florals greeted them. Hinting at the fun to come, a custom blue bar from Paisley & Jade featured a whimsical animal lamp - a subtle preview of the playful motifs that would define the rest of the evening.
A Personal Motif: Feathers, Fur, and Monogamous Loons
One fun inclusion for this wedding was the animal motif. Anna and Cam leaned into playful custom illustrations that highlighted the animals from their journey as a couple: an [INSERT COLLEGE] alligator and a Virginia Tech turkey for their alma maters, a squirrel as a nod to Richmond, and their three beloved dogs.
The standout animal detail, however, came by surprise. While brainstorming over video calls with a duck-filled body of water in their background, the couple realized the perfect symbol for their partnership was the loon. Known for their long, devoted lifespans, loons were featured on the invitations, napkins, place cards, and even on customized cards guests could take as a keepsake from an interactive mini print vending machine. It was a deeply intentional touch that brought incredible depth and storytelling to the entire design.
A Dreamy, High-Drama Tablescape
As guests entered the ballroom for dinner, they were met with a glowy, floral, and dramatic atmosphere. With a mix of table shapes, patterns, and colors, this room was breathtaking. The head table lined the center of the room, anchored by bold fuchsia lamps running down the length of the tablescape.
Centered on the wall was a vintage-style cake, complete with columns holding up its dramatic, elevated tiers. Anna found inspiration for their wedding cake during a visit home to her favorite hometown bakery. Spotting a vintage cake display in the window, she instantly knew she wanted that exact high-drama look for her big day.
Dancing the Night Away
For the final part of the celebration, Anna and Cam led their guests outside, where the design truly came to life beneath a sail cloth tent adorned with disco balls and playful party animals.
The couple handpicked custom lounge seating for the tent, including a coffee table featuring intricate cranes. Plain design was nowhere to be seen under the tent, where vibrant, patterned linens reigned supreme. At the bar, guests found custom matchbooks and personalized golf tees—a sweet nod to Cam's parents, who hosted a similar golf tee tradition at their own wedding. Surrounded by glowing lights, pattern play, and deep personalization, it was an unforgettable celebration of two family histories coming together.
